Probiotics are dietary supplements containing beneficial microbes – bacteria or yeasts. Each of us host microbes that play a critical role in human health; a healthy intestinal tract harbors over 400 different species of native and transient microorganisms. These beneficial microbes:
- enhance digestion and the availability of nutrients
- supply antioxidants and other key nutrients, including lactoferrin
- aid in detoxification by favoring fermentation and helping to overcome putrefaction
- provide natural antibiotics such as acidophillin, bifidin, and hydrogen peroxide, all of which destroy pathogens
Sugar and other simple carbohydrates, food additives, chlorinated or fluoridated water and antibiotics upset this native, normal flora, while cultured foods such as yogurt and fermented vegetables help repopulate it.

A healthy microbial population is the key to strong natural immunity to disease
Microbes not native to the human body may dramatically benefit us. These transient organisms pass through the gastrointestinal tract without taking up residence. Before the advent of modern farming practices, these organisms were consumed in substantial amounts. Doc’s Friendly Flora is now available in capsules.
Soil Based Organisms (SBOs) – Why we include Bacillus subtilis in Doc’s Friendly Flora
SBOs as a group are known to secrete bacteriocidins, produce lactoferrin, detoxify a wide range of environmental toxins, and produce enzymes that destroy disease-causing agents such as certain yeasts (including candida) and fungi. Beneficial SBOs produce and release nutrients and hormones that improve nutrition while helping to regenerate tissues.
Our ancestors ingested a wide variety of these organisms with their whole, natural and often fermented foods. Recent studies have demonstrated how certain microbial cultures containing SBOs possess powerful properties useful in chronic infections, cancers and other chronic and acute problems.
SBOs are found in organically raised fruits and vegetables, as long as modern food washing and processing techniques that tend to kill these organisms are not used. The SBOs have powerful effects on cells of the immune system that line the digestive tract, stimulating B lymphocyte and other antibody production. Anti-viral effects are also noted; SBOs stimulate the production of 16 of the possible 20 types of alpha-interferon.
This increase in B cells, non-specific antibody reservoir, T cells and antivirals, combined with improved nutrition and the digestion and removal of pathogens and toxic materials, has resulted in successful treatment of serious illnesses and chronic degenerative diseases. There are reports of improvements in chronic viral, fungal and yeast infections of all kinds, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, nervous disorders, epilepsy, ADHD, autism, glaucoma, asthma, chronic fatigue, constipation, rheumatoid arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome and many other diseases.
SBOs also produce antioxidants, which scavenge free radicals that can cause tissue damage in inflammatory states, aging and cancer. Throughout evolution, humans have consumed these communities of microbes. Western societies have traditionally utilized lactic acid bacteria and yeasts in their fermented foods, while Asian societies utilized phototrophic organisms and Bacillus subtilis.
Doc’s Friendly Flora contains all of these species, and the synergy and interdependence between species is responsible for its powerful beneficial effects. These organisms work together to help each other digest a wide range of materials and to produce a wide variety of antioxidants and nutrients. They have a profound antioxidant effect in regulating biochemical processes, which strongly discourages the growth and proliferation of harmful species and markedly enhances health.
How to Use Doc’s Friendly Flora
Capsules are 90 to a bottle. Take between or before meals. The standard dose is one capsule per day, though more may be useful at times. Some people benefit by working up to four capsules daily and using this much for as long as a few months.
