Laboratory Chemistry Nutritional Evaluation

How We Evaluate Body Chemistry

The Laboratory Chemistry Nutritional Evaluation is a computerized analysis of a very specific blood chemistry screen and CBC (complete blood count) which provides us with a way to monitor and balance your body chemistry. The body chemistry is the action of key elements in the blood upon the cells of the body. These elements are:

  1. The electrolytes: sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate, phosphates, and sulfates. Electrolytes exist in different concentrations inside the cells and in the fluid between the cells. The differences in concentration literally generate the electricity that you experience as energy. Diet and supplements dramatically influence electrolyte concentrations.

  2. Calcium and other minerals: We tend to associate the function of calcium and minerals with the bones and teeth, but calcium is also critical in muscle relaxation, nerve conduction, hormone function, and blood clotting. Calcium also regulates the permeability of all cell membranes, and hence the movement of nutrients into the cells and wastes out of the cell. Other minerals are essential as enzyme catalysts, enabling the cellular production of ATP, ADP, and NADH, compounds that store and deliver energy.

  3. The Organic Elements: oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, and nitrogen are obtained from water, air, and food (proteins, fats, and carbohydrates). Combustion-like chambers inside the cell, the mitochondria, make energy as oxygen combines with carbon. But some oxygen combines with other elements, which lose electrons in the process. This is oxidation, and excessive oxidation causes loss of energy, chronic disease, and premature aging. Optimal levels of nutrients at the cellular level minimize these processes and optimize youthful vitality.

Nitrogen is a critical element. Only proteins contain nitrogen. The muscles are made mostly of protein, and most of the nitrogen in the body is in the muscle mass. There are also nitrogen compounds called NADH and NADH2 in every cell in the body. These nitrogen compounds store and deliver energy; they are the currency of your body's electrical energy-generating system. The Blood Chemistry Nutritional Evaluation measures your body's stores of nitrogen and its ability to utilize that nitrogen in energy-producing electrical-chemical reactions.

What Factors Determine Your Body Chemistry?

Food is the obvious immediate contributor to the chemistry. Other factors include heredity, water quality, emotional stress, and exercise. Every cell in your body shares the same basic body chemistry, and every cell's vitality is determined by your basic body chemistry. The body is a battery. Chemical reactions generate electricity. The "charge" on the body's battery is determined by the elements discussed above.

The Laboratory Chemistry Nutritional Evaluation assesses the concentrations and relative ratios of these various elements, pinpointing definitive impairments in the body chemistry, and serving as a basis for making simple but far-reaching adjustments in the kinds and relative amounts of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates you eat. Supplements that are truly right for you can be used to complement the highly individualized diet you and I design. The realistic goal is greater energy and the reversal of medical problems.
