Traditional Foods Are Your Best Medicine
When first published, Dr. Ron's first
book was a voice in the wilderness crying out, "Animal
foods are good for you!"
Dr.
Ron tells a story about his first day in naturopathic
medical school in 1977. The last class of the day
was naturopathic philosophy. Surveying the class of
thirty mostly vegetarian students, the teacher, Dr.
Gordon Hurlburt, a crusty old naturopath who had been
in practice for over thirty years, offered the comment,
"Most of you people look like you could use a
good steak."
Nine years
later, when Dr. Ron wrote Traditional
Foods Are Your Best Medicine, he and Dr. Hurlburt
were still in the distinct minority. The years since
have seen the pendulum swing toward a renewed understanding
of the importance of high quality animal foods in
the diet. Thousands of health care professionals and
nutritionists have learned about the research of Weston
Price, Francis Pottenger, Max Gerson, and others.
The work of those pioneers showed beyond any doubt
the critical importance of nutrients found only in
seafood, and meat and raw dairy products from grass-fed
animals.
"If
the wholistic movement for drugless therapy, using
natural foods eaten by our ancestors has a hero, it
surely must be practicing naturopathic physician Dr.
Ronald F. Schmid. He has authored an information-packed
text employing poetic language and an obvious love
of naturopathic science…I anticipate using the
book as a reference for decades."
-Dr. Morton Walker, medical journalist,
in The Townsend Letter
for Doctors, 1987, #51
Traditional
Foods Are Your Best Medicine is so valuable
because it accurately presents the wisdom of our ancestors.
The answers are there for us if we can open our eyes
to them.
